Change of Major

Thank you for your interest in the Mechanical Engineering program.

Due to high demand and limited resources, the ME department is currently only reviewing major change requests from students who meet the following criteria:

• Minimum grade of B in MATH 30, MATH 31, and PHYS 50 (preferably at SJSU)
• No more than two course repeats or 8 repeated units in these courses
• Minimum institutional (SJSU) GPA of 3.0

We do not provide curriculum advising to non-ME students to avoid delays in their current major and to prevent misunderstandings about guaranteed acceptance. Students may independently review the ME curriculum if they wish to take relevant courses.

Meeting eligibility does not guarantee a major switch. All candidates will be ranked, and admission depends on available space and performance in foundational courses. Final approval is also subject to University review.
